Just get your entry and parking tickets, when you arrive at parking, you will need a ride up hill to the entrance, 3 euro per person, return ticket is good value for a money. It is not advisable to skip this ride because you need to walk few kms to the entrance; not smart especially during hot days and with the fact that the hike up to Vesuvio is elevated 1.2 km.
